What is Delta 8 THC Distillate?
First, we'll give you a quick primer on delta 8 and 9 THC. Delta 9 THC is the primary psychoactive cannabinoid in the cannabis plant and causes the "high" feeling and euphoric effects. Delta 8 THC is a secondary cannabinoid and isomer of delta 9 THC. While their molecular structures are similar, their bonding method differs, making delta-8 less potent than delta-9.
While delta 8 is psychoactive, it's more relaxing and typically doesn't cause the same unwanted side effects as delta 9 THC, like dizziness, mood changes, anxiety, and drowsiness. However, delta-8 still contains beneficial pain-killing, anti-nausea, and anti-anxiety properties. One recent study surveyed the feelings of users after taking delta 8, with the following results:
- Relaxation: 71%
- Euphoria: 68%
- Pain relief 55%
Furthermore, 74% and 83% did not experience anxiety or paranoia, respectively.
Of course, there's still a need for more sufficient data regarding delta 8 THC; however, because it may offer the wellness benefits of cannabis without the same strong psychoactive effects, it's been steadily growing in popularity.
The first step when making hemp-derived delta-8 THC is to make CBD crude oil. Next, the CBD crude is processed and distilled, and the CBD is isolated from the rest of the cannabinoids. Once a pure CBD extract, 99%+ purity, is created, the CBD goes through isomerization, whereby the CBD converts to Delta 8 THC. Isomerization requires chemical agents to change the molecules from CBD to Delta 8 THC. After isomerization, the solution goes through a distillation and refinement process to remove residual solvents or unwanted molecules. The result is pure delta-8 distillate.
A clear or light-colored delta-8 distillate has a high viscosity and is usually better quality than a dark amber distillate, which can indicate the presence of impurities. The best distillate on the market will look somewhere between clear and amber and comes from hemp grown on farms that don't use heavy metals or harsh pesticides. Delta 8 Distillate vs. Concentrates
Naturally, most consumers who have never tried delta-8 distillate have many questions. One common question is about the difference between distillates and concentrates. Essentially, the differences between the two lie in their potency levels.
Concentrates typically have around an 85% potency level. However, a distillate has a higher concentration and purity level, closer to 90-99%. Furthermore, a distillate may contain small quantities of other minor cannabinoids.
Many concentrates made from cannabis extract retain some of the plant's natural terpenes. So, unlike a distillate, they're not flavorless or odorless. Instead, some describe their scent as floral, spicy, and earthy, similar to hash oil, although it depends on the specific strain used to make the concentrate.

Step One: Determine how you'll use your delta 8 THC distillate. Find a recipe, gather the ingredients, and follow the recipe.

Step Four: Add the correct amount of delta-8 THC distillate to your recipe after deciding on a suitable dosage. We recommend adding the distillate to butter or oil and infusing those two ingredients together instead of adding the distillate directly into the other ingredients.
